New Hurdle For Minesterial Hopefuls — October 8, 2015

New Hurdle For Minesterial Hopefuls

Every ministerial nominee must be endorsed by at least two senators from their state, the senate ruled on Thursday after deliberating on the procedures for the screening which commences on Tuesday.

Except there is last-minute realignment of forces, some of the ministerial nominees may not scale through.

Rotimi Amaechi (pictured), former governor of Rivers state, has been openly antagonised by the three PDP senators from his state.

It is also believed that Babatunde Fashola, former governor of Lagos state, may be affected by the proviso, which is not new but had been used in the past to disqualify certain nominees.

Fashola is not thought to be a nominee of Bola Tinubu whom the three APC senators from Lagos state are loyal to.

According to Dino Melaye, spokesman of the senate, the upper chamber would adopt constitutional provisions and conventions of the senate as modalities for screening the nominees.

Melaye said the senate would apply section 147 of the Nigerian constitution‎, which states a nominee must be an indigene of one of the 36 states of the federation, in the exercise.

He also disclosed that the senate would use section 14(3‎) of the 1999 constitution, which stipulates that a nominee must be eligible by age and academic qualification to be confirmed as a minister.

The adhoc senate spokesman said the ministerial nominees would also show prove of asset declaration at the code of conduct bureau in the process.

He said former lawmakers who are nominees would be given preference in line with the conventions of the senate‎.

However, he added that the preference did not imply they would take “a bow and go”.

‎Melaye announced that all the ministerial nominees must submit at least 105 copies of their curriculum vitae to the senate before October 12.

Parents Should Stop Doing This Because Of Their Children’s Future —

Parents Should Stop Doing This Because Of Their Children’s Future

Whether educated or not… This post or thread is directed to all parents and even the intending parents can learn one or two things from this while those who were victims may also share theire experiences.
.
I was in SS1 to introduce the newly promoted students to Physics as a subject… I felt there is the need for me to ask them why they chose the science department even when some of them know how demanding the department could be… I was taken aback with some of the response i got from some of the students. A female told me categorically that her passion is to become a writer in the nearest future as she love reading poems and Novel but her mother was against it. I asked her what was on her mother’s mind when she said no and she told me that her mum told her emphatically that there is no Nurse in the family and as such she has to be a nurse to fulfil her mum’s wish… I was left dumbfounded as the girl has no other option but to obey her ‘dear mum’.
As if it wasnt enough, another told me he loves designing but his dad want him to be a Pilot and he doesnt have any option.

The matter above is somehow sensitive as even the so called educated fellows make the mistake of ‘departmentalising’ their kids if that Word exist in the english context.

The scenario reminded me of the movie 3 idiots that i watched back then and i had to prescribe it to the students to go watch with their parents…

Imagine what disastrous effect it would have had on their careers if MOHAMMAD ALI’s father had forced him to be a musician and MICHEAL JACKSON’s father had forced him to be a boxer…

I Shared my impression with a friend and he stated point blankly that this is one of the many reasons why our educational sector keeps falling beyond expectation… It isnt about what they want, rather, it is about what we the parents want.

Parents have totally forgotten that they are suppose to CHOOSE WITH their Children and Not CHOOSE FOR them when it comes to their careers…

We might be vastly experienced but we still need to respect the passion of our children…

Let the children know that they need to follow excellence and success will chase them pants down as stated by Ranchoddas Chalmadas Chanchad…

I have spoken…

She also added that young people should work, pray and persevere.

She said, I’ve tried and failed a lot of things in the past, same with music, I don’t even think am good at it as much yet, I’m still getting there but I’ve failed many many times. Find what you are good at, practice every day, fail at it many times until you are good at it.

Policeman Kills Woman, Critically Injures Her Husband Over N20 Bribe —

Policeman Kills Woman, Critically Injures Her Husband Over N20 Bribe

A policeman in Lagos, on Wednesday night, shot at a moving tricycle along Isheri/Ijegun road, killing the wife of the operator, Idongesit Ekpo, who was nursing a three month old child. The reason for opening fire? Well, the husband refused to part with the appropriate amount of bribe as he insisted that the people in the tricycle were not paying passengers, but his family members.

According to eyewitnesses, the tricycle operator was returning from church with his wife and four children between the ages of 1 and 12 in the tricycle, when the police corporal flagged him down asking for the usual N100 bribe. Ekpo, the man driving the tricycle, instead, handed the policeman a N20 note and drove on. The policeman with no regard for even the little children in the tricycle opened
fire on the departing vehicle. At least one bullet passed through Mrs Ekpo’s skull, killing her on the spot, while her husband was hit in the jaw.

Doctors are said to be fighting to keep Mr. Ekpo alive. As for the policeman, when he realized how bad the situation was, he alerted his team members and they all fled the scene.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, thereafter ordered the immediate arrest of members of the team on duty that night. The arrested team members include Sergeant Benson Ahambo, Corporal Augustine Telenundu, Corporal Onu Samuel and Corporal Musefun Aremu.

The children of Mr Ekpo, fortunately escaped unharmed – Mary, 12; Blessing, 9; Abraham, 7; and 11-month-old Elijah – and were at the Area ‘M’ command under police protection.

SIM Registration: Telecom Operators Alleged That NCC Misplaced Data Base Of 100M Nigerians —

SIM Registration: Telecom Operators Alleged That NCC Misplaced Data Base Of 100M Nigerians

The latest SIM cards re-registration exercise forced upon telecommunication operators by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is generating controversy about the motive of the exercise. Daily Trust reports.
Recall, a similar exercise was carried out in 2013 which had cost Nigeria N6.2billion.
About 100 million subscribers were registered at the time.

Rumours have started to make the round from Telecom operators that the NCC had lost the data base from that exercise and that its current directive is an indirect way of embarking on a fresh one.

However, the commission said its records and documents are all clean, and the GSM operators are ganging up to malign it.
The National Assembly in 2011 approved N6.2 billion for the NCC to conduct SIM registration aimed at stemming the tide of
rising crimes. Tens of millions of Nigerians filed out and registered their SIM cards and the database gathered during that exercise
was passed on to the NCC.

The exercise ended in June 2013 but SIM card registration was allowed to continue at the points of purchase. Two years on the NCC has now asked Nigerians to re- register their SIMs again. This has made some analysts and observers to begin to ask questions as to what had happened to the initial exercise.
There was no official comment from NCC as
at press time yesterday. The Director of
Public Affairs Mr Tony Ojobo did not answer calls made to his phone. He also did not
reply to a text message sent to him.

A senior NCC official, who sought anonymity told reporters that the directive affects only 47 million subscribers who did not do their registration properly two years ago.

He said: The telecoms operators are being mischievous because we only asked them to do what they failed to do properly. Criminals are
capitalizing on this to commit crimes and we said: look, do this thing very well.”

“operators are only going about maligning the commission because they were penalized when they failed the deadline given them.

“Due to the dubious way they went about doing the SIM registration, we asked them to repeat it in the areas we found inconsistencies.”

“Look, we have been telling them to correct and update their SIM registration data since December last year. “When NCC filtered through the database, we discovered that the
operators, in a bid to have more subscribers, did the SIM registration haphazardly.

“We discovered many inconsistencies. About 47m did not have their photo captured very
well. They registered goats, yams and even masquerades. That was why we told them to correct all the anomalies.

“NCC is not expending any money again; it is the operators that are now doing what they did not do well in the first instance.

“So, we have not spent anything and the money budgeted for the first exercise was judiciously used; we have our records and
documents.”
